Technical grade liquid nitrogen N
2 is produced by rectification of liquefied air at low temperatures.
PROPERTIES
Technical grade liquid nitrogen N
2 is a non-flammable, transparent odourless liquid, with a temperature of about -196°C. Under normal conditions it immediately evaporates, absorbing heat from its surroundings.

APPLICATION
Nitrogen is mostly used when inert atmosphere is required, for sub-cooling of various materials, for long-term cryogenic storage of biologic materials, etc.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND HEALTH PROTECTION
Upon work with liquid nitrogen it is necessary to prevent contact with the skin and mucous membranes, which, due to the very low temperature (- 196 °C) of the matter, causes frostbite. During manipulation, it is imperative to use personal protective aids and asbestos gloves.
PACKING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
Liquid nitrogen is transported and stored in special containers and tanks, or in Dewar vessels.
The presented instructions are to be considered as general and may be modified with regard to local conditions.
